From Relevancy to Revival: The Power of God's Breath in Our Lives

In a world filled with chaos and endless pursuits, many of us find ourselves running in circles, chasing after everything except what truly matters. We wonder why our lives feel empty and void, yet we continue to seek fulfillment in temporary things rather than in the eternal God who created us.
Why Do We Live in a Wandering World?
Too often, we make everything else bigger than our God, and then we wonder why our lives give back heartache and emptiness. God didn't create us to live in constant pursuit of the next thing, sprinting from event to event in an endless cycle of dissatisfaction.
The solution is simple yet profound: "You seek me while I can be found," God says. "I draw near to those that draw near to me." When we wonder why our lives are in disarray, we must examine what we're allowing to happen in our hearts and minds.
What Does It Mean to Move Mountains?
The Bible tells us that if we speak to a mountain, it shall be removed and cast into the sea. But this requires more than just willingness to speak - we must believe that power resides in our tongue. We have the authority to speak to the circumstances in our lives, but we must exercise faith in God's word rather than relying on our limited understanding.
How Does God's Breath Bring Order to Chaos?
Throughout Scripture, we see a pattern: the breath of God (ruach) appears in moments of chaos to bring peace, structure, and submission. When the earth was void and dark, the Spirit of God brooded over the waters, and then God spoke light into existence - not the sun, but intelligence in the midst of ignorance.
Creation: The First Breath
God's breath brought structure to creation, dividing the formless from the formed, darkness from light, waters from seas. Then God directed His own breath into Adam's nostrils, giving him life with divine purpose.
The Red Sea: Deliverance Through God's Breath
When Israel faced the impossible at the Red Sea, God's breath made the waters stand, creating dry ground for deliverance. His breath makes a way when there seems to be no way, setting us free from bondage to sickness, poverty, heartache, and addiction.
Jesus' Birth: Life in the Midst of Chaos
After 400 years of silence, God breathed upon Mary, and she brought forth Jesus. The breath of God brings life to dead situations and hope to hopeless circumstances.
Pentecost: Power for the Church
In the upper room, there came a sound like a rushing mighty wind, and God breathed power into His people. This wasn't just wind - it was the personal, creative, and active presence of God empowering believers for His purposes.
Are We Wasting Our Breath?
Consider your conversations over the past day. How much time did you spend promoting your problems, feeding your issues, or speaking negatively about your circumstances? When we waste our breath on complaints and negativity, we're not aligning with God's purposes.
God's breath is never wasted. Nowhere in Scripture do we find God speaking words that don't accomplish their purpose. Every word He speaks comes to pass, even when dealing with stubborn people.
Why Do We Rely on Common Sense Instead of the Holy Spirit? Many of us use common sense as our primary guide, but there's a sixth sense - the Holy Spirit. While geniuses use about 10% of their brain capacity, most of us operate on much less. Yet we trust our limited understanding over the infinite wisdom of God's Spirit.
The Holy Spirit will show us things we could never imagine with our finite minds. When we rely solely on common sense, we miss the supernatural opportunities God has for us.
What's the Difference Between Coping and Conquering?
Over time, we learn to cope with situations rather than conquer them. While it's easier to cope, God has called us to be more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. We don't have to accept what the world tries to put in our heads as truth - we can conquer lies with God's truth.
Coping means we've settled for less than God's best. Conquering means we're actively fighting for the life God intended us to live, using His power and authority.
How Do We Guard Our Words?
Scripture teaches us that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. We must be intentional about what we speak because we will live by the words we say.
Key principles for guarding our speech:
Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life (Proverbs 13:3) Let your speech be seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6) Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit (Psalm 34:13)
What Does It Mean That God's Breath Is Personal?
God's breath isn't just wind blowing randomly. It's the personal, creative, and active presence of God. He chose you specifically - you didn't choose Him. Out of everything He could have breathed life into, He chose you for a purpose.
This means you don't walk alone. He leads you beside still waters, and in His presence there is fullness of joy. Like Joshua, we can say, "If You don't go with us, we're not going."
Life Application
This week, before you leave your house to do anything, pray: "God, if You don't go with me, I'm not going." See where you shouldn't be going and what you should be doing instead.
Stop wasting your breath on complaints, negativity, and promoting your problems. Instead, speak life over your situations. Guard your mouth and keep watch over your lips. Remember that you're not bound to sickness, poverty, addiction, or any other bondage - you've been set free by God's breath.
Ask yourself these questions:
-
What am I speaking over my life and circumstances?
-
Am I coping with situations God wants me to conquer?
-
How can I better align my words with God's truth this week?
-
Where am I relying on common sense instead of trusting the Holy Spirit's guidance?
The breath of God that brought order to chaos, parted the Red Sea, brought forth Jesus, and empowered the early church is the same breath available to you today. Don't waste it - use it to speak life, truth, and God's purposes into every area of your life.
